The Delta Junction City Council unanimously approved the hiring of a new finance officer during its Oct. 6 meeting, as current Finance Officer Kaylee Trofimov prepares to leave her position after recently moving to Wasilla. Trofimov’s last day is scheduled for Oct. 23.
Mayor Igor Zaremba said Autumn Tetlow was the only applicant for the position. He noted that she interviewed well and holds a double major in finance and accounting. Zaremba also expressed concern about the need to fill the position before Trofimov’s departure.
“We advertised with the state job service, Alaska Municipal League (AML), the City’s website and the local paper,” said City Administrator Lori Roberts. “Igor, Deputy Mayor Mary Leith, and myself conducted the interview.”
Tetlow will be hired at Grade 4, Step 4, with an annual salary of $75,608.
The council also approved several payments in the excess of $2,000 including $2,920 to Guess & Rund for August 2026 legal services, $24,415.74 to Vitus for September fuel, and $23,403.69 to Aetna for September health insurance.
In other city news, Delta Junction dispatched a sander truck to the Tanana River Bridge Thursday after icy conditions contributed to two vehicle incidents.
According to the City, a pickup truck spun out on the icy bridge and struck it, blowing out both front tires before coming to a stop. A second pickup pulling a trailer also lost traction while attempting to maneuver around the initial incident.
With the local Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities reporting that its crews were approximately two hours away while sanding other areas, the City sent its own sander truck to the bridge. State crews later arrived and applied a thick layer of sand to the bridge to improve traction. No fatalities were reported.
