The Delta Skating Association is excited to announce the completion of a major expansion project at the Delta hockey rink, adding two new locker rooms, a concession stand, and a downstairs viewing and warming area.

This project has been a long time coming and represents another important step forward for hockey and skating in our community. The additional locker rooms will provide much-needed space for our growing program and visiting teams, while the new concession stand and viewing area will make the rink a more comfortable and welcoming place for families, spectators, and community.

DSA would especially like to thank Heritage Contracting for the tremendous amount of work they put into this project. They went above and beyond to help make the expansion a reality. Their willingness to work with DSA, solve problems as they arose, and put in the extra effort necessary to complete the project made a huge difference. We are extremely appreciative of their commitment to the project and to our community.

While completing the expansion is exciting, it also comes at the perfect time as another hockey season gets underway.

Teams are currently being created, games are being scheduled, and our players have already started dryland training in preparation for getting back on the ice. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming season, and we look forward to seeing the rink busy again with players and families.

Youth hockey provides much more than an opportunity to play a sport. It teaches young athletes the importance of teamwork, commitment, discipline, hard work, and accountability. Players learn how to work toward a common goal, how to respond to adversity, and how important it is to be part of something bigger than themselves.

In a community the size of Delta Junction, programs like youth hockey are especially important. They give kids a productive place to spend their time, help create friendships that can last for years, and bring families together throughout the winter. The rink becomes more than simply a place to play hockey – it becomes a gathering place for our community.

The completion of these new locker rooms and facilities is an investment not only in DSA, but in the kids and families who will use them for many years to come.

There are many people who have helped make improvements to our hockey program and facilities possible, and DSA is grateful for the continued support we receive from businesses, volunteers, parents, coaches, the City of Delta Junction, and the community as a whole.

We are looking forward to another great hockey season and are excited to put the new space to use.

The Liewer Olmstead Rink received a facelift over the summer.  Two new locker rooms were added, along with a new area for concession stands and an additional viewing room. “This viewing room will eventually have two mounted TV screens to watch the game,” explained DSA President BJ Sloan. “And one can also keep an eye on any skaters on the smaller rink.” Photo by Michele Trainor

The two new locker rooms mean quicker times to get on the ice, and the ability to host more tournaments, meaning bringing more teams into town. “The turnaround time between games with two locker rooms averaged around 45 minutes,” said DSA President BJ Sloan.  “Teams coming off the ice have to take off their gear and vacate before the next team comes in.  Four locker rooms allow us to have games back to back.”  Photo by Michele Trainor
