A canvass board met Friday afternoon to recount votes and record any absentee ballots and two contested ballots. One of the contested ballots was accepted while the other was discarded.

The final tally gave Kimba Crocketts-Manning 41 votes for Seat B with 29 write-ins and 23 blanks (no votes). Pete Hallgren received 78 votes for Seat F. Four write-ins were recorded with two Deltana residents which were discarded and 15 blank. Seat E’s Tim Webb received 82 votes with one write in and 12 blank votes. Jennifer Brant received 15 write-in ballots for Seat C, followed by Mike Prestegard with three votes, and Stormie Mitchell with two.

Brant declined the position stating “As a lifelong resident of Delta Junction, it has been a true privilege to grow up and remain an active part of the community.”

Brant wrote in a letter to the City of Delta Junction clerk “With a heavy heart and after deep reflection, I am writing to let you know I will not be accepting the appointment to City Council Seat C at this time.”

Brant went on to say that personal commitments prevented her from giving the position the time and dedication she felt it deserved. She said that it means a lot that there are people who have faith in her ability to serve and she has not ruled out running for a seat in the future. The fate of Seat C had still not been determined at press time.

City election results will be certified at a special meeting October 13, and newly-elected officials will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled meeting October 20.
