The Delta Huskies' volleyball team continued its impressive win streak last week, battling through an exciting tournament to claim the championship title at the Copper River Classic in Glennallen.
Huskies finished the first day of tournament play as the No. 1 seed but were knocked into the losers’ bracket on the second day after a tough match. Refusing to let the setback slow them down, Delta battled its way back to the championship match, where they faced the Su-Valley Rams.
The Huskies initially thought they had sealed the championship with a win over the Rams, but tournament rules meant one more game would decide the title. The teams took the court for a final, winner-take-all "IF" game played to 30 points.
Despite exhaustion and an early nine-point deficit, the Huskies steadily built momentum. Delta fought its way back into the game and finished strong, securing the championship 30-21.
Delta’s setter Maliah Jackson, and libero Rylan Wilson, were both selected to the All-Tournament Team for their outstanding performances throughout the weekend.
The Huskies carried that momentum into Tuesday’s matchup against the Hutchison Hawks, with both the JV and varsity teams earning victories. Delta will now prepare for its final tournament of the season, the Santa Showdown in North Pole. The next home matchup will be against the Hawks on October 13. The Huskies will then travel south October 16-17 to Valdez to take on the Buccaneers.
