After months of planning, permitting, and securing a location, the long-anticipated Delta Veterinary Services clinic is finally taking shape. The new facility is being constructed adjacent to Station 49 Convenience Store and Subway. Veterinarian Dr. Josh Link said construction is expected to be completed and the clinic operational by late spring 2027.
“The goal for the vet office will be to provide Delta and surrounding communities with reliable and consistent veterinary care for both small and large animals,” Link said. “I still plan to do mobile appointments and house calls for large and small animal clients, but the building in town will greatly increase the number of clients and patients we will be able to see and elevate the standard of care and diversity of procedures we will be able to provide.”
Link brings a broad background in large- and small-animal veterinary care to the new practice, something that is needed in the Delta Junction area. He grew up in eastern Pennsylvania, where he spent much of his early career working with dairy cattle, sheep, and goats.
He moved to Alaska in 2015 and attended veterinary school through the collaborative program between the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Colorado State University. Link was part of the program’s first graduating class.
While at UAF, Link worked at the Large Animal Research Station, gaining experience with musk ox, caribou, and reindeer. The veterinary program also provided him with opportunities to work with both sprint and distance sled dogs.
Following graduation, Link spent five years working at North Pole Veterinary Hospital before establishing his own mobile practice two years ago.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Link trains and competitively races a sprint dog team and participates in skijoring competitions in Alaska and Canada.
With the new clinic now under construction, Delta residents can look forward to having a local permanent veterinary facility while still taking advantage of Link’s mobile and house call services.
