First Corinthians 2:14 states, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
Tony Evans gives a great illustration of this passage of Scripture in his book, “Tony Evans Book of Illustrations,” pages 213-214. He shares how two men, friends, were watching a very good movie together but on a very small 13” television. The visiting friend decided he wanted to go home during a commercial break and watch the remainder of the movie on his 19” television. Upon getting home and attempting to watch the movie, he was unable to get connected. You see, the problem was that even though he had a larger and better television, he did not have the cable connection via satellite hookup. He was, therefore, unable to pick up the signal to connect to the channel to watch the movie.
The unsaved (the natural man) are unable to have direct communication with God because they have never been saved! Unless a person has repented of their sins and asked Jesus Christ to save them, they will never have direct access to God. It is only the spiritual man (a Christian) who can enjoy the direct fellowship with Almighty God. As John 9:31 states, “Now we know that God heareth not sinners (the unsaved, the natural man): but if any man be a worshipper of God (saved, born-again, Christian), and doeth His will, him he heareth.”
What man are you? Think about it.
