Approximately 50 people took advantage of Saturday’s break in the weather to take in the open house at the River Walk Park. Lots of sunshine and blue skies greeted the folks who came not only to walk the trail but view the park’s newest addition – a pavilion and area ready for a bonfire, cornhole, and down the road, seating for community events.

Families walked the trail, searching for listed items on the Story Walk sponsored by Delta Community Library. And some were not so easily found. “No bugs,” laughed Tim Webb. “And I can’t seem to find a feather!”

“Tiki Levinson will announce  sometime in the future at the library the winners and their prizes,” said Mindy Eggleston, president of the Delta Junction Trails Association. “And as you noticed, we have the fire pit going along with the corn hole.”

The cornhole boards currently in use are temporary, but Eggleston said permanent boards are in the works.

With fall colors brightening the landscape, there is still time to enjoy a stroll through River Walk Park or along the Liewer-Olmstead Trails. Cranes and swans can be seen flying overhead, while the changing leaves provide a colorful backdrop.

With high winds in the forecast, however, visitors may want to take advantage of the autumn scenery while it lasts, before Mother Nature sends the leaves on their way.

Granddaughter Kinsley echoed his sentiment. “This is my first time on the trail, and I’m really enjoying it but the bugs are all gone and I need to find some!” Photo by Michele Trainor
