As an American by birth, one of the things I am most proud of is the mindset of the Revolutionary War leaders, especially George Warshington. History has recorded for us the many early defeats the American armies suffered at the hands of the British forces. On many occasions it appeared that all was lost, but by God’s mercy and blessing and tactical genius of George Washington, America eventually won the war. The odds were heavily stacked against us; after all, we were fighting the strongest army upon the earth – the British empire! The country upon which it was once stated, “The sun never sets upon the British empire.” The British forces never truly recovered from that demoralizing defeat at our hands. Why did we ultimately win that war? There are two reasons, I believe. First, Almighty God allowed us to achieve that victory, and second, the leaders and soldiers persevered. They didn’t quit. They kept fighting for freedom. They never gave up hope.

The Christian has the ultimate victory through Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. We do face battles on this earth, though. A Christian must have the same heart conviction and mentality. We face a foe, the devil, that is much more powerful than we are. “On paper” we have no chance of success, but victories are seldom won because one side had a bigger army; rather, many times it comes down to who has the most determination to persevere. God promises the Christian victory will be won if we refuse to quit.

Read the words of Galatians 6:9, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Our faith in Jesus Christ has made us overcomers. May we never forget that.

Think about it.
